Latvian Academy of Sciences names the major achievements of 2019 in Latvian science


In the end of 2019, Latvian Academy of Sciences names ten major achievements in the science of Latvia in 2019, and awarded seven letters of appreciation by the President of Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Among the 10 major achievements in science are the scientists of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Studies Centre -  Mg.biol. Jāņis Stāvusis, Dr.med. Baiba Lāce, Mg.biol. Dita Kidere, Dr.biol. Inna Iņaškina with “Detection and binding of the slow myogenic binding protein C gene of new specific mutations with a new, hitherto undescribed inherited neuromuscular phenotype — myogenic tremor and myopathy”.

But with letters of appreciation by the President of Latvian Academy of Sciences awarded Mg.biol. Ilze Elbere, Mg.biol. Monta Ustinova, Mg.biol. Ivars Silamiķelis, Mg.biol. Laila Silamiķele, LZA correspondent member Ilze Konrāde, LZA academic Valdis Pīrāgs, LZA academic Jānis Kloviņš (Latvian Biomedical Research and Studies Centre, Human genetics and Molecular Medicine Group of Riga Stradiņš University) about “New type 2 diabetes therapy mechanisms and efficacy markers have been detected in patients' gut microbiome” and International Authors Working Group, from Latvia Dr.med. Jeļizaveta Sokolovska, LZA academic Valdis Pīrāgs, Dr.biol. Vita Rovīte (University of Latvia Medical Faculty, Latvian Biomedical Research and Studies Centre) about “The study revealed the involvement of basal membrane collagen in diabetic kidneys in the development of disease”.
