RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN BIOMEDICINE FROM GENES TO HUMAN

From 18 to 20 March, a BBMRI-ERIC Management Committee meeting took place in Vienna. Latvia was represented by Vita Rovīte, Coordinator of the Latvian National Biobank Network.

During the meeting, the future development directions of BBMRI-ERIC were discussed, including the work plan, implementation of strategic objectives, and activities of the working groups. Particular attention was paid to the role of biobanks within the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and their integration into the EOSC.

In 2026, targeted training activities are planned within the Latvian Biobank Network, focusing on data governance in the context of EHDS, as well as strengthening competencies in biobank quality management.

Further information on the planned training activities will be shared soon.

The Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre are the coordinator of the BBMRI-Latvia national biobank network, which implements the BBMRI-ERIC Latvian National Partnership Plan. This activity contributes to the achievement of performance indicators within Project No. 1.1.1.5/3/24/I/006, “Development of Latvia’s research potential by strengthening the integration of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre into European infrastructures and scientific networks”, co-financed by the European Union.
