Project Title: Bacteriophage–derived dsRNA as a potential agent against coronovirus
Project No: lzp-2020/2-0369
Period: 1 December 2020 – 31 December 2021
Project costs: 100 389.00 EUR
Principle Investigator: Dr. biol. Dace Pjanova
Summary
The projects aims to repurpose and investigate the efficacy of bacteriophage–derived dsRNA (Larifan) against coronavirus. Larifan has been developed as a poly-functional and wide-spectrum drug for viral diseases and is registered at the State Agency of Medicines of the Republic of Latvia in relation to herpes virus infections and secondary immunodeficiency. The efficacy of Larifan against SARS-CoV-2 will be tested in vitro in cell cultures and in vivo in golden (Syrian) hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) as a proof of concept. The obtained results will guide the further clinical development of the drug.
