Funding: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 1.1.1.4. Measure. Specific support goal “Development of R & D infrastructure in the field of smart specialization and institutional capacity building of scientific institutions”.

Project Title: “Infrastructure of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center for the strengthening of research and technology transfer capacities in the fields of biomedicine and biotechnology”

Project No.: 1.1.1.4/17/I/009

Period: 48 months (01.10.2017.-30.09.2021.)

Project costs: 2 947 407.00 EUR

The aim of the project is to create a unified, freely available and efficiently functioning infrastructure complex which will provide Latvian biomedical and biotechnology research and technological development needs for the development of personalized medical solutions, innovative human and veterinary therapies and diagnostics.

The aim of the project is closely linked with the need to develop a significant area of biomedical and biotechnology for Latvia so that it can (1) solve public health problems, in particular with regard to the development of personalized medicine, including new diagnostic and personalized therapies (2) provide an experimental basis for a new innovative medicinal product (including veterinary medicine) to promote technology transfer.

The project aim is based on the long term strategy developed by BMC, based on precisely identified missing links that impede modern biomedical research and clinical practice and practice based clinical monitoring of public health. The aim of the project is to systematically use and develop existing infrastructure and scientific potential created by BMC, coordinating the project development plans whit its partners to the creation of potential thematic clusters, as well as to ensure that the infrastructure complies with the standards of international cooperation, including infrastructures at European level for the ESFRI-ERIC.
