RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN BIOMEDICINE FROM GENES TO HUMAN

4 February is marked as World Cancer Day. BBMRI-ERIC has prepared informative materials and aims to highlight members of the BBMRI-ERIC community who are contributing to the advancement of cancer research.

The spotlight is on researchers and biobank professionals driving innovation in cancer research: the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, FINBB, DKTK Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung, the German Biobank Network (GBN), the Medical University of Graz, BBMRI.at, Fundación MD Anderson Cancer Center España, IRYCIS, the ISCIII Platform for Biomodels and Biobanks, the German Biobank Network (GBN), and University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. These are the teams behind the data, discoveries, and breakthroughs that make United By Unique patient-centred care possible.

We are pleased that BBMRI-ERIC has highlighted our researcher Monta Brīvība, who is involved in a “The role and dynamics of the oral and gut microbiome in childhood cancer patients” project with the aim to determine the composition and dynamics of the gut and oral microbiome in childhoos cancer patients to identify specific microbiome-associated markers that could help predict disease progression, the effectiveness of anticancer therapy, and potential complications. Monta Brīvība emphasised that the unique characteristics of each child’s microbiome are essential for better understanding responses to cancer treatment, and that this research can contribute to a more precise and individualised approach in paediatric oncology.
