BlueRemediomics partners Abbe Brown (University of Aberdeen) and Davids Fridmanis (Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center) are participating in a public engagement event along with Anda Ikauniece from the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LHEI).
The Lampa festival is a 2-day public engagement event taking place next June 20-21st 2025 in Cēsis, aiming to spark discussions on what matters for Latvia but also for the world socially, and environmentally speaking.
In a discussion moderated by Anda Ikauniece (LHEI), Abbe (UNIABDN) and Davids (LMBC) will address the themes of blue-green algae and the “Do No Significant Harm (DNSH)” principle, what it actually means, what factors there are to consider and who should have a say in it through an interactive presentation for everyone to be able to take part in this important conversation.
The “DNSH” question addresses a range of provocative questions around the use of manipulated organisms and/or microbiomes to solve problems, to address the acceptable type and amount of ecosystem manipulation and the ethical implications. Drawing on three problems/solutions relevant to the BlueRemediomics project, a series of Town Hall/public engagement events have been and will be held to explore what DNSH could and should mean. The aim is for policy makers, scientists (of all kinds), activists and members of the public to attend these events and voice their views.
Date: 20th of June 2025, 6.30 p.m.
Location: Cēsis Castle Park, Latvia.
