Within the framework of cooperation with Hong Kong manufacturer of scientific equipment, DNA sequencing instruments and reagents – MGI Tech Co. – and the Mammoth Foundation, the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre has received a donation – the High-Throughput Automated Extraction and Liquid Handling Workstation MGISP-960. This instrument will provide simultaneous and automated processing of 96 biological samples, which have been processed manually so far, thereby significantly increasing the accuracy of the performed analyzes and reducing the time required for sample processing.
The device is intended for scientific research and will provide significant support for the research of SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as the genetic material of COVID-19 patients in Latvia. The device will also be used for other scientific projects, related to the research of various diseases in Latvia (for example, type 2 diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases, sepsis, childhood malignancies, acromegaly, etc.).
