RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN BIOMEDICINE FROM GENES TO HUMAN

On Friday, 28 November, the University of Latvia’s House of Nature hosted the very first joint conference of LIOS and the Latvian Biomedical Research & Study centre (BMC).

Throughout the day, laboratory and group leaders from both institutes gave concise introductions to their work, teams, opportunities, and research directions, while students and postdoctoral researchers presented their scientific achievements during the poster session.

The conference gathered a wide circle of scientists and early-career researchers from both institutes, offering an excellent opportunity to gain deeper insight into each other’s professional activities and to explore possibilities for collaboration and shared research.

The more we learn about one another, the more diverse and promising the potential for future cooperation becomes — strengthening the contribution of Latvian science.

In 2026, LIOS and BMC will unite as one research centre on both banks of the Daugava – NIRI (National Institute of Research and Innovation)
