Project summary:
The aim of the project is the development of the joint Centre of Excellence research infrastructure of the State Scientific Institute “Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis” (hereinafter – OSI) and the State Scientific Institute “Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre” (hereinafter – BMC), aiming to strengthen the capacity of Latvia’s innovation system in the RIS3 priority area “Biomedicine, Medical Technologies, Pharmacy”.
The target group of the project includes state scientific institutions registered in the Register of Scientific Institutions – OSI and BMC – as well as the scientific staff employed at OSI and BMC. On 31 May 2026, the merger of OSI and BMC is planned. To fully realize the potential of this merger, specific next-generation scientific equipment is required, enabling the complementary use of OSI and BMC scientific expertise for the needs of both industry and academic projects.
To achieve the project’s objective, the following activities are foreseen:
- Development of research infrastructure, including two sub-activities – “Development of OSI research infrastructure” and “Development of BMC research infrastructure”. These sub-activities will involve the acquisition of scientific equipment;
- Implementation of project communication activities;
- Provision of project management.
As a result of the project implementation, it is planned to achieve the indicators specified in Paragraphs 21, 22, and 23 of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 88 of 4 February 2025, by acquiring 17 sets of scientific equipment.
The implementation period of the project is 36 months, starting from 01.10.2025.
The total project cost is EUR 5,441,717.00, of which ERDF co-financing amounts to EUR 4,625,459.45 (85%), and national budget funding amounts to EUR 816,257.55 (15%).
The BMC premises are accessible for persons with functional impairments:
- Access to the elevator is available by vehicle.
- A lift is available for movement between floors.
- Access to laboratories and other facilities within the BMC is ensured.
